New Beginnings

WRITING PROMPT #27: New Beginnings

New beginnings. Barry and I are kind of experts at this topic. We've moved six times in sixteen years and now we are starting over with a new baby. Plenty of material for this writing prompt! But then last night happened. After dinner our family was discussing dating and our kids started sharing what their "type" was. As in, dating. Even the nine year old had an opinion on the subject!

This has been an exciting topic at our house because starting this past summer, our oldest has suddenly had girls texting him. Or having their friends text him to ask if he likes them. Or even being so bold as to ask him out. My son thinks this new world has been overwhelming for him. Well, try being the parents, buddy!

When did we get here? It feels like just yesterday we were discussing which Pokemon type was our favorite! But here we are, parents of a fifteen year old surrounded by hormones and drama and the great dog-eat-dog world of high school.

The last few weeks have been quite nostalgic for me and Barry as we've shared our past dating experiences and advice with him. It is so crazy and fun to watch him figure it all out; to watch all of our kids stepping into older versions of the little kids we've known for fifteen years.

But it also reminds me: I really don't miss the world of dating. Way too complicated.
